Ohio Michigan Indiana Special Local Users Group Meeting
October 18-19, 2005
At the Cisco Systems in Richfield, Ohio
October 18th will be a day of
workshops at the 2005 OMI A SLUG conference. Featuring a three hour workshop
for the new Constraints (CES) System interface, and a three hour workshop on how
HyperLynx simulation can help you understand signal integrity issues in your
designs.
We will be getting a good look at the Mentor Constraints software, its purpose,
use and effects. In the 2005 release CES will be the default net clearance and
properties editor. Join your peers in
discussions of the merits of using CES and HyperLynx, and other topics of
interest.
On Oct. 19th, Mentor Graphics will be showing us what is new and cool
in their Expedition Enterprise product and will be presenting a roadmap for the
future of their products. The 2005 release should be out by the time of the
conference and there will be several improvements to the software. Come and
learn how the changes in this release will affect you and your company.
Attendees can ask questions about the future of BoardStation and where Mentor
sees it in their product line up. This is the second year that Cisco Systems,
in Richfield, Ohio, is hosting the OMI A SLUG conference. We would like to thank
Jeff Porter and his group for again affording us the use of their excellent
facility!
The next release of software will add to the DxDesigner–Expedition interface the
CDB that is now the Design Capture–Expedition interface. The DxDesigner–CES–Expedition
session will prepare you for what may be Mentor’s preferred job flow. Mentor
will also talk about the forthcoming translators between Design Capture and
DxDesigner, and show you that Mentor Graphics is ready to help you if your
company decides to make the move from DC to DxDesigner.
Valtronic
has been using the Mentor products to create micro-miniaturized electronic
solutions. Don Styblo will describe to us what Valtronic does to create their
tiny wonders.
Some
day there will be an elegant way to automatically place components into a
printed circuit design with a usable pattern. DesignAdvance has been working on
an auto-placement product that may be the future of this software category.
This session should offer a fascinating look into intelligent component
placement done by next generation software.
Two
companies that have had multiple designers simultaneously working on boards
using Mentor’s XtremePCB will be presenting their experiences. You have seen
the demos, now hear from the people who have used the product. The presenters
are Nat Rowe of Harmon Becker and Gary Shoemaker of Cisco Systems.
Neil
Vanek of PartMiner will present a CAPS solution to risk management for RoHS.
With less than a year to go, many of us are looking for help to become
compliant. There is more to this than just being Lead free.

If you have not already done so, you should take a look at the Mentor Users
Group WEB site. If you choose to register at the MUG site, you should sign
up for the Exploders that cover any of the products that you use. The
Exploders are threaded e-mail discussions on problems and solutions of Mentor
software products and technique tips that can make your life easier.
