In recent years, the corporate intranet has become the powerhouse of the perless office, providing company-wide access to business information from any desktop platform. Kyocera Wireless Corporation embraced the business intranet: everything was on the web except, until recently, CAD library data. Anyone who required access to this data had to be trained to use the CAD tools, which was inefficient both in terms of time and license availability. A way had to be found to get library data onto the Intranet in a simple, low maintenance manner. In 1996 Mentor Graphics AE Manager Mike Walsh presented a paper at MUG that illustrated userware that he had written to create a web-based electronic data book for LMS. KWC installed this userware and applied it to their LMS installation, customizing and extending the functionality to suit their process and requirements. This paper will detail the capabilities of the available freeware and will discuss the extensions and functional changes made by KWC to integrate and automate the process in their environment.
