Geometry creation is typically a manual process. A Librarian translates a mechanical datasheet for an electrical part into the footprint that is used to attach the part to the PCB. Hopefully, the translation process uses a set of rules, but it can be a time consuming and error prone process. The concept of automating the creation of geometries will be introduced. The pros and cons of automation, the supporting process that is required, and the checking process will be discussed.
