The 3D mechanical interface option in Mentor Graphics Board Station applications allows you to exchange certain information back and forth between PCB and mechanical design systems. In order to get the most from this exchange, you need to understand the limitations of the process and how to set up the design data in both systems. I will describe the process we use to exchange data between Mentor Graphics Board Station and SDRC's Ideas (mechanical design system) and the practical considerations for a successful exchange; along with examples.
