Developing Geometries that are designed for manufacturing is often considered an art form left largely to geometry librarians and PCB experts. Geometries thus developed are usually manually calculated and hand drafted to a specific target manufacturing process and are not easily reworked when manufacturing processes changes.
This paper examines the various issues involved in creating DFM geometries and describes how generation technologies can be used to overcome obstacles to automating the development of geometries. In particular, Geom Genie will be used to describe how various DFM guidelines can be captured by a generator and used to generate re-targetable geometries. The issues involved in maintaining such a generated DFM geometry library will also be discussed.
