Practical Tips for Using RF Gateway to Transfer Layout Information from HP's Series IV into Mentor's Board Station

This presentation will consist of two separate application notes relating to use of the RF Gateway. The first deals with the use of RF Gateway in an LMS environment. LMS requires certain attributes to be attached to schematic symbols. In HP's Series IV, there are two distinct types of attributes, "properties," and "parameters." Each of these will translate into a Mentor attribute, but their use and behavior in Series IV is quite different and has proven to be quite confusing to users. The paper will discuss the differences in these two types of attributes and when and how to use each most effectively. The second deals with a technique for handling vias and through-hole components with the RF Gateway. The RF Gateway correctly translates the geometry of surface mount components, but drill hole information does not translate. The authors will describe the necessary steps to take to substitute vias and through-hole geometries for the incorrectly translated ones.
