The Lockheed Martin Engineering Process Improvement Center has been working to automate its library part development process with Part Development System (PDS). The first release of a PDS process concentrated on automating the final testing of a library part. This QC process places a part on a sheet and runs it through to_layout, Layout and QuickSim. In addition to verifying that the part will run in all the applicable tools, this QC process generates a report that includes: a view of the symbol as created, a view of the symbol on a sheet, the parts catalog file entry, the map file for the part, the timing file for the part (digital), the timing diagram for the part's simulation, and a view of the part's geometry placed on a board. This report is then used to verify that the data entered for the part is accurate and complete and is the final signoff for the part.
Subsequent efforts are concentrating on testing of the specific part views as they are created. We will report the status of this work and our overall impression of using PDS.
